An Oxford Physics graduate, Derek began his professional career with KPMG, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1978, rising to the level of General Practice Partner in the London Office. In 1990 he moved to industry and the post of Group Finance Director of Hi-Tec Sports plc, a listed international sports and leisurewear group with a turnover of £120m.
After a period as group FD of London Buses Ltd during the privatisation of the ten London bus companies and then FD of BR Projects Ltd, he became Group FD for SPG Media Group plc, a listed group publishing international business journals, industry websites, conferences and business forums. During his eight years with SPG Derek was involved with a major capital restructuring exercise, two acquisitions, a disposal and the establishment of an Indian subsidiary. For the last five years, Derek has made his considerable skills and experience available to SMEs on a portfolio basis.
